" I am excited and honored to have been selected," says Rolando Chang Barrero

"La Vie En Rose” is an installation by Rolando Chang Barrero which brings to light the the “pink” elephant.
The “pInk' elephant in this case being the alternative “safe” environments where we choose to believe is answer to the violence and trauma to our LGBTQ youth.

I question these types of “solutions”, and found them to perpetuate “victim-ness” rather then empowering. Essentialy removing the GLBTQ youth from a customary path to adulthood.

My question is are we “closeting” them for their safety, or are we incapable of creating the change necessary for all our youth to travel into adulthood without fear of violence because of their gender or sexuality.  Are we teaching our bold, powerful, beautiful children  to hide behind walls while preaching shamelessness?

Are we asking them to wear rose tinted glasses...
