A sound system and several computers were damaged at the Boynton Beach Art District after the massive flooding in southern Palm Beach County Jan. 10, and district officials are now asking the public for donations to help replace the equipment. One event scheduled for early February, Kerowacked, was cancelled because water levels 12 inches deep damaged the equipment needed to run the show. District director Rolando Barrero hopes that through “Flood Relief for the Boynton Beach Art District,” he can save Boynton Beach Live, scheduled for Feb. 20.“Where we make most of our revenue is through the arts walks and the Boynton Beach Live events,” Barrero said.Without computers to communicate via social media and equipment to blast sound, Barrero said the district could find itself on a standstill and without any events to provide money for monthly expenses. This week’s ArtAL’FRESCO will run as scheduled, because most of the equipment needed was rented, Barrero added. So far, Barrero has received $500 donation through a separate fundraiser, but he set up Flood Relief for the Boynton Beach Art District to gather another $2,000 needed to replace the equipment. So far, he’s raised $275.
