The Art of Kyle Willis

at Bohemia AG Gallery
The work of artist, illustrator, writer and pop-culture provocateur, Kyle Willis will be featured in a solo exhibition organized by curator Rolando Chang Barrero which opens with a reception on August 8th, 2015 from 6-9 pm  at Bohemia AG Gallery located in burgeoning NOWO Art District at 536 Northwood Road, West Palm Beach Florida 33407.

NORTHWOOD VILLAGE—“It makes complete sense to bring the challenging and provocative imagery created by Kyle Willis of Jacksonville, Florida to West Palm Beach,” says Rolando Chang Barrero. Placing the Kyle Willis exhibition at Paul Klov’s Bohemia AG Gallery is a perfect match for both Paul Klov and Kyle Willis are mainstays of a community of artists and gallerists committed to new art forms without forsaking the traditional.

The Art of Kyle Willis explores history and popular culture in a series of madmen  portraits that includes Gothic writer Edgar Allan Poe as well as meth-head icon Jesse Pinkman of Breaking Bad.
In regards to his work, Willis says, “There is a fair share of anguish and madness in my work with no notion of being subtle. Being a huge dork at heart shines through in my work, which is mostly fanboy nerdcore with a splash of geekery. My paintings show my attraction to pairing colors that don't necessarily complement one another, and it brings a certain electricity to the canvas; a comforting tradeoff for my lack of any formal training.

Palm Beach Post Today: #LoveWinsExhibition Tops List of 3 to See by Cultural Council of Palm Beach County

YOUR CULTURAL CALENDAR FOR THIS WEEK
3 TO SEE
Schedule your season — with our help
It’s almost the weekend — time for the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County to share with you the best of what our community has to offer. Each week, you get three ideas — one that’s free, one that’s affordable and one that’s a splurge. Your “3 to See” cultural curator is Marilyn Bauer, director of marketing and government affairs at the Cultural Council.

FREE Love wins in Boynton Beach

A few short weeks ago, the U.S. Supreme Court declared same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states, leading to the Twitter trend #lovewins. In Boynton Beach, the “#LoveWins Exhibition” opens tonight at ActivistArtistA Gallery and will feature photos, paintings, sculptures and videos from local artists all honoring the momentous decision. The gallery is a part of the Boynton Beach Art District, so take a walk around and see the murals of Industrial Avenue for the full experience.

“#LoveWinsExhibition:” Tonight at 6. ActivistArtistA Gallery, 422 West Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach. Info: www.activistartista.com

DEAL Spend a day surrounded by sculptures

It’s been a long summer, and you just want a day to yourself; no more work, no more phone calls, no more stress. Take a break this weekend and enjoy it in the peace and quiet of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens before they close for August. Explore the artist’s vintage home in West Palm Beach, along with the bronze, stone and wood works in her studio onsite. The gardens, however, are the real draw: the flora, rare fauna and sculptures such as the famous “Seven Beings” are symbolic of the “secret garden” nature that the museum holds.

Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens: Open Wednesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until July 31; gardens will re-open in September. Admission is $10. 2051 South Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. Info: 561-832-5328 or www.ansg.org

   SPLURGE

Idina Menzel stops in at Mizner

If you’ve been around children in the last year, there’s a 99 percent chance you’ve heard “Let It Go,” from the 2013 Disney film “Frozen.” The song’s been played in malls, on television and in every family minivan across the country and now; you can see it performed live onstage by the voice of Elsa herself, Idina Menzel. The Broadway star and voice actress will grace the Mizner Amphitheater stage as part of her world tour. There will undoubtedly be some covers and a “Wicked” song or two.

Idina Menzel World Tour: Sunday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $70 and up. Mizner Park Amphitheatre, 590 Plaza Real, Boca Raton. Info: www.idinamenzel.com

“You and I” by Fabrizio Cruz is part of the “#Love Wins Exhibition” in Boynton Beach.

In todays New Times! #LoveWinsExhibition.."#LoveWins every single time!"

Unless you were doing a social media cleanse the week of June 26, you probably noticed something significant that happened online in the wake of the Supreme Court’s ruling on same-sex marriage. Suddenly, even the people on the periphery of your Facebook friends’ list who had once held some pretty stodgy beliefs about love and marriage seemingly all at once had rainbow overlays on their profile pictures as they gleefully shared some of the more harebrained bits of Antonin Scalia’s dissent with the hashtag #lovewins. The groundswell of social media support was undeniable. At ActivistaArtistA Gallery, that hashtag, as well as a celebration of same-sex marriage, is the inspiration for the exhibit “#LoveWinsExhibition.” As to what art lovers can expect during Thursday’s opening........ read more

The Supreme Court’s landmark decision in Obergefell v. Hodges guarantees to same-sex couples throughout the nation the freedom to marry and the right to recognition of their marriages.  We have much to celebrate with this affirmation of the dignity, liberty and equality of same-sex couples, and the LGBT individuals who are part of those couples, under our federal Constitution.  Loving and committed couples and their families in every state and territory are now entitled to the far-reaching legal protections and respect for their relationships conferred through marriage.

Thank you....
 Adora and Teddy Behr
HotSpots and GenreLatino

Adora: Teddy, did you see the message I sent you on Facebook? Rolando Barrero is organizing an art exhibit called #LoveWins on the theme of same sex marriage.
Teddy: Yes… his Facebook page is called “Activista Artista” the same as his gallery, and it’s a call to artists, both amateur and professional, of all types, to submit work on the theme “Love Wins.” We have to submit something, don’t you think?
Adora: Of course, but what? The announcement says it can be performance art, spoken word, dance, sound art, installation, 2 or 3 dimensional, kinetic… everything is allowed. I have so many ideas: I could do an installation, the inside of my dressing room for example… or a 2 hour performance piece of me putting on my makeup…con't
