Announcing ART SYNERGY ARTWEEK2015!
Art Synergy Announces New Art Districts and Calls to Artists!

West Palm Beach, FL - After an amazingly successful inaugural year, Art Synergy is back bigger and better with ArtWeek 2015.
Formed in early 2013 in response to the needs of local artists in Palm Beach County, Art Synergy is a countywide movement to unify and promote the diverse culture of our vibrant arts community. Developed from discussions during a think tank with local artists, Rolando Chang Barrero, Craig McInnis and Freddy Hennevelt took the lead and formed an organization to promote art events throughout the county that would coincide with Art Palm Beach. The thought was that Palm Beach County arts could benefit from the popular art event much like Miami benefitted from Art Basel.  Soon it was christened ART SYNERGY and took off running with the support of the many local artists in the county.

The first year, five art districts participated in various ways, with each district having events on one particular day during the week long Art Palm Beach event.  The repose was phenomenal and the momentum in developing the volunteer non=profit organization was ongoing throughout the year with additional countywide meetings with artists, the community and the media.
The organization grew and this year has expanded to seven districts. Once again their will be specific days in for each districts and the participating galleries and artists to be spotlighted. The districts are comprised of artists’ studios, galleries and supporting businesses and restaurants that have come together to promote local art. The seven districts are West Palm Beach, Lake Worth, North County, Northwood, Antiques Row (including Worth Avenue), Boynton Beach and Delray Beach (Artist’s Alley).
Art Synergy, a non-profit organization, and all of the participating districts are volunteer based and rely on the artists and volunteers to run and manage all of the events.  They also depend on sponsorship from local businesses and patrons in order to promote and market the events.  Art Synergy is always looking for sponsors and there are many sponsorship opportunities.
Through the generosity and support of Lee Ann Lester, the Director of IFAE and Art Palm Beach, Art Synergy will once again have a booth at the ArtPalm Beach 2015 exhibition, January 22 through January 25, 2105.. This is an extraordinary opportunity for artists to be in this prestigious show by entering a call to artists. It will be a juried exhibition of exceptional work created and made by professional artists of Palm Beach County at the  This beautiful showcase is held at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, Palm Beach, FL., and is dedicated to providing a rich visual arts experience for collectors and art enthusiasts from Europe, Asia, and North and South America -.
The call for artists is open to all residents of Palm Beach County.  The deadline to apply is December 15, 2014.  Applications are available at Juried Art Services --Go directly to ART SYERGY ART CALL

There will be many exciting events and fabulous opportunities to view art of all media throughout the county.  As events are scheduled, they will be posted on the Art Synergy website, www.artsynergyPBC.com

Season One debuted in January 2014. It was wildly successful, and is now going into Season Two. Art Synergy 2014 included six art districts throughout Palm Beach County, and gained the full support of David and Lee Ann Lester, cofounders of Art Palm Beach and the American International Fine Art Fair, who provided booth space within the Convention Center at both fairs.

They also gained the support of The City of Boynton Beach Art in Public Places, The Society of the Four Arts, various mayor's offices, local CRA's and West Palm Beach Downtown Development Authority (DDA) . The second year is being planned now, and promises to be even more successful.

Rolando Chang Barrero, B.F.A., M.A.A.T., School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Rolando is the President of the Florida Arts Association. Rolando is a professional artist and curator and maintains a working studio and gallery called ActivistArtistA at the Boynton Beach Art District where his efforts have been recognized by many awards including a Congressional Letter of Commendation 2014, Best Exhibition in Broward and Palm Beach County 2014, and Best Art Walk in Broward and Palm Beach 2013. He will be opening a new gallery, Rolando Chang Barrero Fine Art, on Lucerne Avenue, Lake Worth, on Friday, November 21.

Craig McInnis, professional artist, illustrator, muralist, and musician has an AAS degree in advertising design from Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale. His latest mural was recently completed in Northwood, and he is the Creative Director of Fright Nights at the South Florida Fairgrounds, where he does horror make-up, graphics, branding, set design, and has played many different characters. He is now also teaching cartooning to youth at the Armory.
The two co-Founders of Art Synergy have been working with artists throughout the county to make Art Synergy such a success. They will talk about their own work as artists, about Art Synergy as it heads into Season Two, and what this will mean for artists in Palm Beach County.

There's a $10 fee to attend

If you'd like to bring some snacks or drinks to share, that would be much appreciated, and, please, share this announcement with friends.

ART SALONS offer stimulating conversations with other artists, in a relaxed setting. As a springboard to each of our explorations, professional artists from South Florida are invited to present their work, talk about what influenced them, and examine the work of influential artists showing in museums and galleries. Our discussions cover the gamut of contemporary art themes, including conceptual, cultural, socio/political, environmental, race and gender focused and aesthetic practices, the materials and techniques used to convey these ideas, and where we fit into the world of contemporary conceptual art. They’re also an opportunity to explore the practical side of being an artist, of professional development and the sharing of useful resources.
Salons are facilitated by Elle Schorr.
DIRECTIONS: All Salons meet in the Library of the Armory Art Center, 1700 Parker Avenue, West Palm Beach, Florida 3340, in the historic Art Deco Armory building to the left of the garden.
If you're driving North on I-95, turn right/ east on Belvedere Blvd. Turn left at the light on to Parker Avenue. Continue north to Park Place, just before the fire station. The entrance and main parking lot of the Armory Art Center is halfway up the block on the left side.
If you're driving South on I-95, turn left / east on Okeechobee Blvd. Turn right on Parker Ave, just before the Convention Center. Continue south past the fire station and turn right on Park Avenue. Florida Atlantic University Publishes Book: Includes Homoerotic Works by Rolando Chang Barrero

"Mi Pajaro" a solo exhibition of works by artist, Rolando Chang Barrero will open to the public on Monday, October 27, 2014 and run through December 12, 2014.

The exhibition of 10 recent works, curated by Diane Arrieta, is accompanied by an essay about his work written by Nan Runde and published by the
Florida Atlantic University John D. MacArthur Library.

Included in the book which highlights past and present works are two homoerotic works created during the peak of the AIDs pandemic in the 1980's.

"Jesse Helms in the Garden of Adam and Steve" and "Til the Cows Come Home" were two of three reactionary works that earned the artist the nick name of
Activist Artist.
The third work which (no image available) was titled "Growning up is Great" was censored in an AIDS benefit exhibit and is currently in a private collection.

"I am very happy to see these works published by Florida Atlantic University.
These two paintings will not be included in this exhibition because they were recently exhibitited in a prior solo exhibition at UNIT 1, which was curated by Jacques de Beaufort, Art History Professor at Palm Beach State College "
-- Rolando Chang Barrero

"Many of Rolando Chang Barreros paintings lean toward the literal and visually complex, particularly his more overtly political and frankly homoerotic pieces ...."
--Nan Runde "SYMBOL AND SASS IN THE ART OF ROLANDO CHANG BARRERO"

Mi Pajaro is now available in the FAU permanent book collection and is searchable worldwide on world cat where people from all over the U.S. may borrow them through the library system.
Also, available for purchase online at blurb

Photos From Fire Fest 2014 at JDSP

Explorer, Andre Perez, Photo by Rolando Chang Barrero

Fire Fest is fun-filled, Halloween-themed family event educating the community about prescribed fire and fire safety awareness in Florida! This annual Fall event in meant to increase awareness and appreciation of the park’s unique flora and fauna, recreational opportunities, and rich natural history. While attending Fire Fest, visitors learn how prescribed burning preserves our urban interface, improves habitat for native wildlife and plant species, and replenishes the environment’s nutrients. Many of Florida’s plants and animals, including the iconic Scrub-jay, are dependent on prescribed fire. During Fire Fest, prescribed burn demonstrations are led by the Florida Park Service’s District Five Fire Team in full fire-gear and include the ignition of the fire, “brush” trucks ready to spray water, exposition of firefighting hand-tools, and Q & A during and after the burn demonstrations. Other fun activities include live music, swamp buggy rides, hayrides, a bounce-house/game alley, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, scavenger hunts, live animal exhibits, and a Spooky Trail. Inside the Kimbell Education Center, visitors will enjoy interactive exhibits, short films and arts and crafts activitiesLocal artists, Rolando Barrero and Debbie Mostel
