Sacred Hearts: Symbolism and Religion! New work by Rolando Chang Barrero

THE SACRED HEARTS
New Works by Rolando Chang Barrero
Reception
June 14, 2014 at 7 PM

In Rolando's new work, the Sacred Hearts series, he explores the power of symbols in religious imagry by replacing the "crown of thorns" with six of his signature black and white 'pajaro/bird' icons acknowleding the Bible's symbolization of the number six that historically symbolizes man and human weakness. In smaller works of the series Rolando changes the number of birds to four referencing the writers of the Gospels.

Rolando is non-sectarian, but he is avaid student of religious symbolism.

"But there is a dark-side, after all, to the pretty little birds... if you care to venture below the surface into the depth of the symbol, you might find evidence of a life lived with hard lessons and hard truths."

A Gratitude Garden Grows in Lake Worth

Gratitude Garden

The Legacy Continues

Volunteers Needed on March 2nd and 3rd Call 786-521-1199

Two years ago, an organic garden project was begun at the School For The Children in Lake Worth, Florida. The project was turned over to the school and run by the administration and children. They just recently weeded it and planted some new crops but they NEED SUPPORT.
We are taking this opportunity to carry on the legacy. We will build and create the Gratitude Garden, an organic teaching garden demonstrating the beauty of nature as it traces the journey of a seed all the way to the dinner plate.  We’ll establish an outreach and education program centered around the garden.  We will  use the garden to motivate the community to collaborate and educate people on how to organically farm their own food, how to capture and utilize rain water for irrigation, how to remove chemicals from their homes, the powerful effect of water on health, alternative construction techniques and many more exciting workshops. It will be designed to bring funding, education and inspiration to the school and community.
And, finally, we will put in place a program for maintaining the Gratitude Garden and for engaging the community in a broader education effort.
The School for the Children

About

" A place where children come first." Our mission is to provide school age children and their families with high quality, affordable educational and recreational services that foster positive social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.
Mission
Our mission is to provide our children with a safe haven for learning that empowers them to become successful, contributing adults in their community and the world.

We believe that children are gifts that lead us into the future. They allow us to share their world. They enrich our lives as we attempt to enrich theirs. They trust us to nurture their bodies and their souls, to keep them safe from harm and support them through life’s challenges. At For The Children Inc., we are committed to helping our children realize their full potential. We offer a safe, caring and stimulating environment in which children can grow emotionally, physically, socially and intellectually.
Description
FTC is a not-for-profit organization founded in September 1999. It opened its doors to the children of Palm Beach County in April 2000. Our first site, the Old Osborne School was the only elementary school in the city of Lake Worth, Florida where minority children could attend school during the segregation years. Today, the building serves as the headquarters of For The Children Inc. FTC serves a daily average of three hundred (250) children ages 3-18.

We offer family support services and aftercare to children from pre-K through high school. In partnership with our children, their families and their communities we strive to provide a safe, caring and affordable educational environment committed to helping our children realize their full potential.
