After being banned by the city for 44 days, Boynton Beach's acclaimed art walk is coming back.
In June, the city canceled the popular art walk, saying that the event did not have the proper permits to continue. But that was because the city did not have a formal permit for recurring monthly events, such as the art walk.
So, at a meeting this month, Boynton Beach Art District Director Rolando Chang Barrero and City Manager Lori LaVerriere discussed a permitting process that could allow the art walk to return on Aug. 28.
"The meeting was very amicable because a lot of people know about our [artist] community and its responsibility to the city," Chang Barrero said. "I was really, really happy."
If approved by the City Commission, Chang Barrero will have to pay $250 a year to host his monthly art events, plus a $150 fire inspection fee starting in October. Until then, he would pay $100 a month using a special event permit.
