The Girls' School is a multimedia fine art exhibition exploring the aggregate experiences of 5 artists.A four part interdisciplinary curriculum which included visual art, spoken work, music, and open mic, is an invitationto the community to look beneath the surface of what is called "gender politics" and to actively engage in the dialogue.
Curator, Rolando Chang Barrero of ActivistArtistA Gallery, provides the platform for featured artists include Alana DaCosta, Allison Kotzig, Dianne Rosenberg, Niki Lopez and Abby Funk to to share their collective experiences as women, as artists, as powerful advocates against the disregard of genders, but more importantly as human beings.
This event will mark the first of it's kind in the arts, the inclusion of trans-gender individuals and explores their challenges for visibility in the arts and in our community.

Gender is not just a biological definition: it also encompasses the idea of roles and identity in the community. The question that runs through this exhibit is, "Are we are still falling short of the goal of true equality in today’s politically charged climate?"The exhibition which sets the stage for this dialogue will provide an "open mic," for all to participate.

ACTIVISTARTISTA II will Open in July 2014

ACTIVISTARTIST II
800 Park Ave.
Lake Park, Florida

ActivistArtistA Gallery/Studio, Inc. is literally on the move. Proprietor, Rolando Chang Barrero, has found a home for his second exhibition space.

“ACTIVISTARISTA II” will be opening in July 2014 at the Art on Park building in the Town of Lake Park, Florida.  After months of scouting for a new location for the new gallery it became obvious that sharing a space with the Artists of Palm Beach  County was the most fruitful move. Both organizations agreed.

The Grand Opening of  “ACTIVISTARTIST II “ is expected to be one this summer’s biggest arts event in Palm Beach County—but of course!

“Park Avenue in Park Lake may still in it’s infancy, but that’s about to change!”

Biography:

I was born in Louisiana, about an hour south of New Orleans.  Being raised in a close-knit Cajun family, I grew up surrounded by a large extended family filled with artists.  I have been drawing and painting all my life and was also involved in drama, ballet and dance. My first memorable influence was my grandfather who showed me how to proportion the human body when I was seven.

I graduated from Nicholls State University with a degree in Art Education and was an art teacher for seven years.  Now I am the Cultural Arts Coordinator for the City of Pembroke Pines, a job that allows me to promote all aspects of the arts into my community.

My drawings and paintings are a reflection of the exquisite beauty of life. Creating art allows me to escape to another world filled with serenity and calmness.  If you look at my work and see splendor, feel peace or are transformed into another place, then I have achieved my goal.

Bjørn Davidson is an emerging artist, born and educated in New York. Creating modern art with acrylic and collage. Continuing on a family tradition of painting with brush, that goes deep into family roots. His work reflects pop culture , subliminal imagery and lots of the female form, most work is done large format with bold visuals.
