Breaking News: ArtPalmBeach and ArtSynergy Organizing Satellite Exhibitions

Art Synergy in collaboration with Art Palm Beach and the support of the Palm Beach Cultural Council will produce four inaugural satellite exhibitions throughout Palm Beach County in January 2014 during Art Palm Beach weekend.
Art Synergy is creating the long awaited milestone for the advancement of the arts in Palm Beach County.

Craig McInnis at 561-389-4800

In collaboration with Lee Ann Lester, organizer of Art Palm Beach, a group of Palm Beach County artists, led by Rolando Chang Barrero and Craig McInnis, have organized themselves under the banner of Art Synergy to organize art community leaders throughout Palm Beach County to produce four inaugural satellite exhibitions during Art Palm Beach.

ART SYNERGY is a countywide movement to unify and promote the diverse culture of our vibrant arts community.

The four satellite exhibitions; ARTal’FRESCOArtPOPContinuum, and ArtX will highlight the vibrant art scene which community arts advocates, established in their respective niches in Palm Beach County.

Art Synergy co-founder, Rolando Chang Barrero who took the run down industrial park in Boynton Beach and created the Boynton Beach Arts District, ultimately winning the title of “Best Art Walk in 2013”, will host ARTal’Fresco.ARTal’FRESCO, the first of a series of four exhibitions will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 beginning at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, January 25, 2014, Continuum on Clematis is being organized Art Synergy co-founder and visual artist, Craig McInnis with local artists team of ATB Collaborations: Anthony and Trina Burks, who recently presented theAfrican Diaspora Exhibition at the Armory Art Center.

Also, on Saturday: ArtX at Northwood Village, is spearheaded by Freddy Hennevelt and wife Nickie who have been the force behind the newly organized Historic Northwood Village Art Walk.

Sunday, January 26, 2014, Art POP in Lake Worth, is being created by Emily Theodossakos -Marketing and Program Manager Lake Worth CRA – LULA,
Walking tour of the Art Lofts project and the Arches will conclude the series of events.

Background:

In early 2013 with the help (and at the urging of) nationally known artist / activist Frank Batista; Craig McInnis and Rolando Barrero (local artists and activists themselves) created a THINK TANK.

Dedicated to finding solutions instead of dwelling on problems, the THINK TANK was a forum for local artists of all kinds to come together and discuss ideas to help the local scene grow.

The first initiative Rolando and Craig wanted to tackle was a program of events to coincide with Art Palm Beach; in hopes that the local scene could benefit from the popular art event much like Miami has benefitted from Art Basel.

Soon it was named ART SYNERGY and took shape. As of October 2013 it includes 4 art districts, These 4 locations will feature works by artists from all over Palm Beach County during the week of Art Palm Beach (January 23-27 2014).

ART SYNERGY's future goals include events that will happen periodically throughout the year, the addition of more participating art districts, and initiatives that help unify the many diverse art entities, and talented artists that Palm Beach County has to offer.

With the help of local CRAs / Public Arts Depts. / the DDA in WPB and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach county (to name a few), ART SYNERGY has only one place to go... onward and upward. ART SYNERGY leaders: Rolando Barrerro -Boynton Beach Art District / Trina and Anthony Burks -ATB Fine Arts / Craig McInnis - local artist / Outreach Director Jerry's Artarama / Nickie and Freddy Hennevelt- Hennevelts Gallery Northwood / Emily Theodossakos -Marketing and Program Manager Lake Worth CRA - LULA.

The Little House in Boynton Beach Fares Well!

The Little House in Boynton Beach!

Little House serves up good eats!

The Little House serves up right! Good eats, good service, and best of all good beer!

My friend, Ben Wolford (SunSentinel writer) and I were greeted  immediately upon arrival by Little House manager, Connie Kros. We opted to enjoy the breeze on the patio and enjoy a beverage before entering.  It was a perfect evening to exchange ideas and chat about the develpoments going on around town. A writer and an artist chatting about the state of affairs is not to be missed.  Folks sitting on the log chairs next to us were already noshing on 'Snacks' as they are refered to on the menu! I peeked over as I overheard the neighbor exhale and say,"This is sooo good!" It was the Ahi Tuna ($11) that was delighting her!

Ben Wolford and Rolando Chang Barrero at The Little House

Owner, Chrissy Benoit, looked so happy, she knows everything is right! Her menu, developed with  Chef Albert Charles, is outstanding! Useing terms like fluffy , toasty, gooey, and classic, the menu is easy to ready, and Definitely Tasty! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming! The service is excellent!  Chrissy has brought her A-Game to Boynton, and it showed!

The decor had Ben and I glancing around the room when we finally made our way indoors.  Of course we debated-- we argued whether the folksy chandelier was made from 'mason jars' or 'ball jars,' Umm, after closer observation we notice they were neither-- we agreed to call them 'canning jars'!  Without hesitation we unwrapped our face towels, which held our silverware, and began our feast! Indian Butter Chicken ($9), Savory Bread Pudding w/ Sour Cream ($8), Creamy Artichoke Dip ($7), Skirt Steak Salad ($12), and finally Warmed Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($4)

Everything was 'YUMMY' at The Little House!

Ben's comment for the evening was, "Wow, a place where an artist and a writer can afford to eat--on our salaries!"  Ummm, salary? Whats that!

The Little House serves 20 craft beer selections from micro-breweries, as near as Cigar City in Tampa, Florida, and as far as Chinay Belgium, things are really 'hoppin' at The Little House!

Menu prices range for $4 to $12

NSSC reports gains!
Good News from Boynto Beach, Florida!!!!

AMITYVILLE, N.Y., June 4, 2012 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- NAPCO Security Technologies, Inc.'s,NSSC +1.77% , one of the world's leading suppliers of high performance electronic security equipment for over 30 years, announced that new security products, including GEM C combo fire and burglar alarm, Networx wireless locking system, and Starlink2 two-way GSM alarm system communicator, are receiving excellent dealer feedback about their market acceptance, as increased crime rates and building starts (macro drivers for NAPCO products) are being reported by national media outlets, including the Wall Street Journal.
"Murders nearly doubled in San Jose last year and rose in Oakland, San Diego and Sacramento, according to a survey of police departments by The Wall Street Journal and federal statistics. All of those cities have fewer police officers now than in 2009 and the same is true in Miami, Tucson, and Colorado Springs, cities outside California where murders have risen for two consecutive years. Police in many places are making hard choices about how to allocate shrinking resource." "Manhattan experienced a 169% spike in new building permits issued so far this year, according to the buildings department, which issued 35 permits for construction including hotels, apartment buildings, an 'affordable housing' development and an art gallery in the first four months of 2012. Buildings commissioner, Robert LiMandri, is bullish that big building is coming back to New York City, according to the interview." "There are sparks of activity in Boynton Beach, FL, that the city hasn't seen in years. An uptick in building permits are taking shape in new construction projects that are filling up store fronts. More than 2,500 building permits have been issued since October, which adds up to more revenue than the city has seen since 2008." Salty Eggs on Gallery!

“Journalist/Voyeur” Opens Friday at ActivistArtistA Gallery

“Most journalists are restless voyeurs who see the warts on the world, the imperfections in people and places. Gloom is their game, the spectacle their passion, normality their nemesis.” — Gay Talese
Some days, the journalist serves his or her calling’s highest purpose: informing the public about wartime struggles and corporate corruption, or documenting the senseless shooting death of an unarmed Florida teen by a neighborhood watch volunteer.
Then there are the not-so-banner days – when the journalists of the 24-hour news cycle offer little more than celebrity mental breakdowns, 911 calls to tell police that Burger King is out of lemonade, and breaking news coverage on the demise of Kim Kardashian’s and Kris Humphries’ nuptials.
The split personality of the journalist as both careful informer and insatiable voyeur is one that has been debated at length both on air and in the public sphere. This split is now also the inspiration behind ActivistArtistA Gallery’s latest installation “Journalist/Voyeur: The Work of Jonathan Dvoretz and Michael Herb,” which opens Friday. To coincide with the Boynton Beach’s Artwalk, show curator and Gallery owner Rolando Chang Barrero wanted to show the “tension between the two roles of the journalist.” So he selected two photographers to play with the idea. Michael Herb brings the more newsy part of the equation with a series called Project 365, for which Herb took one picture a day for an entire year. Many of  these days included chasing down and documenting events from San Francisco to Florida. Photographer Jonathan Dvoretz, on the other hand, brings in the more playful and voyeuristic side of photography, working mostly in commercial, fashion, editorial, and advertising.
The show opens 6 p.m. Friday and continues through April with a special roundtable discussion with Palm Beach Post reporter Lona O’Connor on April 5.
