Thursday: Boynton Beach Art Walk

Meet the new neighbors: Digsy and Lauren VanArman have established Soul Focus House in Boynton Beach Art District.
I think South Florida may be trying to break records for the place with the most art walks.

Tonight it's Boynton Beach Art Walk, which takes place on the fourth Thursday of each month and includes open galleries and studio spaces and a performance by singer-songwriter Spencer Allan Patrick at 6 p.m. (bring a chair). There will also be a strumming alongsession, so musicians are welcome to bring their guitars and even leave their instrument cases open, in case someone wants to toss in tips.

As for the art, you can check out the closing of Symbolism: Pushing Boundaries billed as a show that "highlights traditional imagery (symbols) in works done on non-traditional surfaces." The exhibition, which features works by Cesar Garcia, Juan Erman Gonzalez, Debbie Lee Mostel, Nikki Saraiva and Karla Walter,  is on display at Rolando Chang Barrero's ActivistArtistA Gallery (422 W. Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach, 786-521-1199).

You can also check out the new kids on the block at Soul Focus House (422 W. Industrial Ave., #7, Boynton Beach). Soul Focus House is a joint collaboration DJ of artist Digsy of DigsyEmpire and Lauren VanArman of Lauren's Art House. Digsy is a painter, singer, designer and turntablist, while VanArman, a painter, illustrator, printmaker, designer and more. She recently went to the Virgin Islands, and a show she built around her trip, will be on exhibit in their space tonight.

Munchies will be available from Get Toasted Gourmet, a food truck that offers grilled cheese sandwiches, paninis, empanadas, fried pickles and more Like Barrero is always saying, "Come for the art, stay for the food!"

If you miss the art walk, you can still check out Soul Focus House's new space on Saturday night, when the duo will host  Sketchy, an event where artists can "paint, sculpt, write, knit or just doodle" and watch a performance by Lauren's Art House, while Digsy spins an eclectic selection of music from 6-9 p.m. July 28. Admission is $5 and will include a raffle ticket for a Jerry's Artarama gift basket. Philadelphia Italian Ices will also be available. The first 20 guests get a free goody bag.

The Little House in Boynton Beach Fares Well!

The Little House in Boynton Beach!

Little House serves up good eats!

The Little House serves up right! Good eats, good service, and best of all good beer!

My friend, Ben Wolford (SunSentinel writer) and I were greeted  immediately upon arrival by Little House manager, Connie Kros. We opted to enjoy the breeze on the patio and enjoy a beverage before entering.  It was a perfect evening to exchange ideas and chat about the develpoments going on around town. A writer and an artist chatting about the state of affairs is not to be missed.  Folks sitting on the log chairs next to us were already noshing on 'Snacks' as they are refered to on the menu! I peeked over as I overheard the neighbor exhale and say,"This is sooo good!" It was the Ahi Tuna ($11) that was delighting her!

Ben Wolford and Rolando Chang Barrero at The Little House

Owner, Chrissy Benoit, looked so happy, she knows everything is right! Her menu, developed with  Chef Albert Charles, is outstanding! Useing terms like fluffy , toasty, gooey, and classic, the menu is easy to ready, and Definitely Tasty! The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming! The service is excellent!  Chrissy has brought her A-Game to Boynton, and it showed!

The decor had Ben and I glancing around the room when we finally made our way indoors.  Of course we debated-- we argued whether the folksy chandelier was made from 'mason jars' or 'ball jars,' Umm, after closer observation we notice they were neither-- we agreed to call them 'canning jars'!  Without hesitation we unwrapped our face towels, which held our silverware, and began our feast! Indian Butter Chicken ($9), Savory Bread Pudding w/ Sour Cream ($8), Creamy Artichoke Dip ($7), Skirt Steak Salad ($12), and finally Warmed Pineapple Upside Down Cake ($4)

Everything was 'YUMMY' at The Little House!

Ben's comment for the evening was, "Wow, a place where an artist and a writer can afford to eat--on our salaries!"  Ummm, salary? Whats that!

The Little House serves 20 craft beer selections from micro-breweries, as near as Cigar City in Tampa, Florida, and as far as Chinay Belgium, things are really 'hoppin' at The Little House!

Menu prices range for $4 to $12

Judge His Book By It's Cover! New Times 7.19.12

Night + Day

THU 7.19

(ART)

"Stitch a Book, Bind a Memory"

Although e-readers are convenient and you can download entire libraries to your tablet or smartphone, true bibliophiles can expound at length on the textile wonders of holding a real book in one's hands. As basic written communication finds new technologies, the books themselves become works of art. Materials such as leaves, embroidered fabric, envelopes, and argyle socks can be sewn together to tell a story filled with keepsakes. In Thursday night's bookbinding workshop at ActivistAristaA Gallery in Boynton Beach, participants will learn the tradition of Chinese stab binding, a simple stitching technique to bind a book. The workshop is designed for beginners and runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 per person, and the workshop includes instruction and materials consisting of medium-quality rice paper and ribbon. Attendees will walk away with a finished piece and are encouraged to bring their own materials to add a touch of personal flair to their books — dirty socks and tawdry love letters included. ActivistArtistA Gallery is located at 422 W. Industrial Ave. in Boynton Beach. Call 786-521-1199, or visit activistartista.blogspot.com

Unleash Your Creative Inner Artist with Artful Dreamers Studio in Boynton Beach

by
Kimberly Moore

Hello, my name is Kimberly and I cannot draw a stick figure.  Truly.  Hands on artsy stuff is something that I LOVE but I just could never really do – except for popsicle stick boxes – I rocked those!  Between the Nuns (10 years of Catholic school & non-approval from the Art Nun) and my Inner Critic, I squash that side of me and I always thought it was ok since I had other ways to express myself like writing and photography, etc…

Unleash Your Creative Inner Artist with Artful Dreamers Studio in Boynton Beach

Those are all the stories that I was telling myself until I met Nadine – The Creative Goddess who owns Artful Dreamers Studio in Boynton Beach.  I was there for a Goddess Birthday Party & we all convened to celebrate and create Goddess collages.  Now, all I can do is think about when I can GO BACK!

Happy Birthday Goddess Party at Artful Dreamers Studio
Artful Dreamers Studio is Magic.  Truly, that is the best word to describe it.  Do you see those glorious faces above??
Nadine manages the controlled chaos of paint, supplies, hot glue guns and glitter with an inner calm that I have never before witnessed.  It did not matter that I cannot paint … or “do art” … or whatever other negative thing that I think thought – at Artful Dreamers Studio POSSIBILITY and CREATION go hand in hand along with all of the supplies that you could ever imagine.
There is a full schedule of activities at Artful Dreamers Studio – Art Retreats, Kids Summer CampIntuitive PaintingWine and Paint and aCreative Women’s Circle (plus tons more – see the Artful Dreamers Studio schedule here).  Nadine and Artful Dreamers Studio are also available for private groups and parties – whether you are turning 10 or 60 – THIS is the place to have a party.  Women’s groups??  Unleash that Shakti energy and wield a hot glue gun in the process!
Abandoned joy – I felt like I was six years old and I had the time of my life – you just have to experience it.
Here is my Goddess Collage:
