New Times! Printed Matters! Opens Today at 7 PM

ActivistArtistA Gallery
422 west Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach, FL
786-521-1199

New Times
"Printed Matters" will have author Cary Polkovitz with special guest authors Billy Hitz and Monique Wegmuller reading from their works. Polkovitz is a Kickstarter baby who successfully funded his book Often Overlooked, which focuses on everyday beauty that people -- you guessed it -- often overlook. He accompanies these images with stories of his own creation that he will share at the exhibition. The exhibit opens at the Boynton Beach Art District's monthly open-mic night, Thursday, June 20, from 7 to 10 p.m. and runs through July 10. The ActivisArtistA Gallery is located at 422 W. Industrial Ave. in Boynton Beach. Visit activistartista.blogspot.com, or call 786-521-1199.

BOCA Magazine online! Often Overlooked By Cary Polkoviz

This Thursday, June 20

BOCA Magazine Online:
by John Tomason

Opening night of “Printed Matters” at ActivistArtistA Gallery, 422 W. Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach; 7 to 10 p.m.; free; 786/521-1199 or activistartista.blogspot.com
ActivistArtistA, the signature gallery of the Boynton Beach Arts District, is playing it by the book for its latest exhibition. An art show for the literati among us, “Printed Matters” will feature both short stories and photographs from Cary Polkovitz, a former graphic artist, painter and now multimedia renaissance man. He’ll share stories and sign copies of his new book “Often Overlooked,” and tonight’s opening event also will feature readings and signings from local authors Billy Hitz (author of the self-depracatingly titled “Pathetic Poetry”) and Monique Wegmueller, who will perform from “Mahalo Sunrise.” The exhibit runs through July 10.

BBAD on Thursdays: Art WALK

Every 4th Thursday of the Month

ActivistArtistA Art Walk

Less than two years ago, the strip of warehouses off of Boynton Beach's Industrial Avenue, just a block west of I-95, was home to old machine parts, drab façades, and a couple of high-end galleries that have been around since the '80s. Now, it's nearly all filled with art. Things began to turn around for the area when artist and gallery owner Rolando Chang Barrero moved up from South Beach, turning his studio into a gallery and taking the reins on the newly developing Boynton Beach Arts District. With a crew of like-minded arts advocates including Lea Vendetta, Andrew Ackerman, Alexia Hemingway, and Chan Shepard of the KeroWACKED Crew, a growing collection of projects meant to infuse and inspire the area with art, and new galleries popping up like weeds, it's no surprise a monthly art walk brings in the community. Apart from spearheading the Bay Gates Project, which assigns a different artist to paint a warehouse gate each month, Barrero's ActivistArtistA gallery also sponsors the Boynton Beach Arts District Art Walk. Visitors can expect to see open galleries and studio spaces, open-jam musical performances, food trucks, raffles, and lots more arts-fueled surprises on the fourth Thursday of each month.
