New Times--Shout Out--ActivistArtistA's Open Mic....City Concert Announced as Prize..and more..

This Week!!

By John Thomason, New Times Broward Palm Beach

ActivistArtistA, possibly the coolest artists' hub ever to emerge in Boynton Beach, returns to showcase the best unsigned talent Palm Beach County has to offer at its monthly Third Thursday Outdoor Open Mic. Recently recognized by Miami’s Critical Recording Studio as a place to scout talent, the outdoor evening will be headlined by Spencer Allen Patrick, whose sensitive acoustic-guitar ballads may be familiar to frequenters of the Blind Monk in West Palm Beach and Spot Coffee and Kevro’s Art Bar in Delray Beach. He’ll be joined by an eclectic array of performers; prospective talent includes rapper Mike DeMario and 14-year-old country singer Maggie Baugh, who gallery founder Rolando Chang Barrero says “brought the house down” at September’s event.

The gallery is located at 422 W. Industrial Ave. in Boynton Beach, and the free event runs from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. Call 786-521-1199, or visit activistartista.com. John Thomason

ActivistArtistA Artist, Paulo Sends "Elly" Adrift!

Paul Slater, aka Paulo, will finally have his day in the sun, and he won't be alone--friends, family, and fellow artists are expected to turn out for the Jelly Fish Drift Project Launch!

Paul, who currently has work at ActivistArtistA in the Boynton Beach Art District (BBAD), is sending "Elly" adrift on October 26th, at Boynton Beach's Harvey E. Oyer Park (formerly Boat Club Park) which is located at 219 North Federal Hwy. in Boynto Beach.

Elly, is a brushed metal illustrated panel which is attached to a bamboo raft.  Elly has been the focus of The Jelly Fish Drift Project, which began to unfold on june 12, 2012 when the City of Boynton Beach announced its sponsorship of the project.

By July 7th we all gathered on the shoreline of Boynton's Oceanfront Park, where the initial send of was to take place.  Unfortunately some logistical issues with his support team prevented the launch.

See you all Friday morning at 9 AM!

In the Know Palm Beach: Oct. 20, 2012

Your guide to noteworthy appointments, nominations and donations taking place within our community of nonprofit organizations

On Sept. 15 United Way of Palm Beach County kicked off its 2012-13 campaign with the "Food Truck/Food Drive." The evening of fun and food-raising hosted more than 450 guests of all ages who enjoyed gourmet cuisine from several of South Florida's popular food trucks while donating nonperishable food items in place of admission. Nearly one ton of food was donated to and will be distributed by Palm Beach County Food Bank, United Way's partner organization.

The event also featured face painting, a bounce house, music and art projects guided by ActivistArtistA Gallery and sponsored by Jerry's Artarama of West Palm Beach. Macaroni Kid offered games and prizes while representatives from United Way's partner nonprofits attended to meet guests and discuss the beneficial work they do in Palm Beach County.

ActivistArtistA supports "Save the Ta-Tas.org!"

ActivistArtistA Supports Save the Tatas!

WHY WE ARE SPECIAL

How it works

Ta-tas® brand www.savethetatas.com commits 5% of every sale to the save the Ta-tas ® foundation. This includes any product sold on savethetatas.com and to any of our authorized retailers. We also donate 10% of all gross royalty income received from the sale of our licensed goods.
Many of our authorized retailers participate in our Donation Matching program,
doubling the donation we would give.
Culturally, we usually understand a donation in terms of “profits” or “proceeds.” Ta-tas® Brand knows that sometimes little or no profit is made on an item, so we want our customer to be assured we make our committed donation regardless. This is why we calculate our donation by the actual sale price, not the profits made. From 2004 – 2010 this translated to roughly 50% of our profits.
The Save the Ta-tas® Foundation also accepts outside independent and corporate donations.

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

About NBCAM.org

The National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM) is a collaboration of national public service organizations, professional medical associations, and government agencies working together to promote breast cancer awareness, share information on the disease, and provide greater access to services.
Since its inception more than 25 years ago, NBCAM has been at the forefront of promoting awareness of breast cancer issues and has evolved along with the national dialogue on breast cancer. NBCAM recognizes that, although many great strides have been made in breast cancer awareness and treatment, there remains much to be accomplished. Today, we remain dedicated to educating and empowering women to take charge of their own breast health.
Although October is designated as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NBCAM is dedicated to raising awareness and educating individuals about breast cancer throughout the year. We encourage you to regularly visit these sites to learn more about breast cancer, breast health, and the latest research developments. Click on any of the websites below for more information.
