Maxine Schreiber On ActivistArtistA

On Thursday, April 26, attend the opening reception of the Packaging Nature Exhibitioncurated by artist Rolando Chang Barrero at the ActivistArtistA Gallery located at 422 West Industrial Avenue. In conjunction with the Boynton Beach Art District Art Walk, which begins at 5:00 p.m., the reception is free and open to the public at 6:00 p.m.
The “Packaging Nature Exhibition” brings together 10 artists in a conceptual exhibition that questions the precepts of "nature." Human nature and the environment are revealed through installations, assemblages, photography, and sound. “It’s the first installation exhibit I’ve had.” Barrero, the founder of the gallery, sounds excited describing the show. “I curated with a loose hand. Ten artists were accepted out of thirty submissions.”
He added, “One of the installations by Serafina Sokolov is about war – that we send children to war.  It’s colorful but has an undertone about children dying.” The other artists are: Gina Bentivegna, Wendy Doscher-Smith, Kim Fay, Juan Gonzalez, Brian Lewis, Saramati Narasimhan, Elle SchorrVicki Siegel, Ryan Spinelli, and Karla Walter. There will also be an outdoor projection of "Wild Wild West" by Lucia Hare-Leahy, and Bill Hartmann will be performing on guitar.  The Exhibition runs through May 17, 2012.
ActivistArtistA Gallery is an alternative exhibition space that highlights the work of emerging artists and new art forms and is the sponsor of the Boynton Beach Art District monthly Art Walk. For more information email info@ActivistArtistA.com, and for now enjoy the slideshow.
