Sacred Hearts: Symbolism and Religion! New work by Rolando Chang Barrero

THE SACRED HEARTS
New Works by Rolando Chang Barrero
Reception
June 14, 2014 at 7 PM

In Rolando's new work, the Sacred Hearts series, he explores the power of symbols in religious imagry by replacing the "crown of thorns" with six of his signature black and white 'pajaro/bird' icons acknowleding the Bible's symbolization of the number six that historically symbolizes man and human weakness. In smaller works of the series Rolando changes the number of birds to four referencing the writers of the Gospels.

Rolando is non-sectarian, but he is avaid student of religious symbolism.

"But there is a dark-side, after all, to the pretty little birds... if you care to venture below the surface into the depth of the symbol, you might find evidence of a life lived with hard lessons and hard truths."

A musician of many guises at a venue of many enterprises, all it needs is a coat of many colors and the evening would be positively Biblical. And with onetime local staple Timb's taste for costumes and the theatrical, that's not out of the question either.

BOCA Magazine Says,"It's that wonderful time again!"

BOCA MAGAZINE
by John Thomasson!

 THURSDAY

What: BBAD Live!
Where: Boynton Beach Arts District, 410 W. Industrial Ave., Boynton Beach
When: 7 to 11 p.m.
Cost: Free
It’s that wonderful time of the month again, when the Boynton Beach Arts District opens its gallery studios well into the night, and live bands and open-mic performers join food and merch vendors for a night of funky and eclectic entertainment. This week’s BBAD Live event is a special one, because it includes a performance from headlining act Timb! (pictured), a veteran singer-songwriter from South Florida who is an endless fount of creativity. He’s sort of like our region’s answer to Robert Pollard, boasting 10 jam-packed solo albums, a number of EPs and tributes to other bands, and side projects ranging from the psychedelic band Los Torsos to the intriguingly named act The Chocolatey Shatners. Check out his website enchantogen.com, where he gives away many of his releases for free.

Sun Sentinel News Today: Boynton Art Gallery Expanding makes the Palm Beach Politics Blog!

Boynton art gallery expanding

Director of the Boynton Beach Art District Rolando Chang Barrero is heading north to find more success.
His art gallery, ActivistArtistA Gallery, at 422 West Industrial Drive in Boynton Beach, is expanding to Lake Park, just north of Rivera Beach. Chang Barrero started his first gallery as part of BBAD – the Boynton Beach Arts District.
The second gallery, ActivistArtistA  II, will open in July at the Art on Park building in Lake Park.
Chang Barrero said he wanted to continue to grow the scene in Boynton, but he couldn’t find a good space.
“I considered a number of different areas, “ he said. “I couldn’t find an appropriate space, needed store front and lots of traffic that I could afford in Boynton or anywhere else.”
But the Boynton Beach arts scene isn’t dead, he said. ActivistArtistA Gallery is closed for the summer, but will be open again during the fall for it’s monthly open-mic nights.
“We will still have a connection in Boynton Beach,” he said.
