West Palm Beach, FL 01-22-2021--Domenic Esposito will be showing his new series of artwork entitled Blank Slate, along with select pieces of his signature work addressing the Opioid Crisis, at the socially conscious Box Gallery in West Palm Beach's “Cultural Corridor.”
The exhibit will be curated by The Box Gallery owner and curator Rolando Chang Barrero.

Esposito's new series titled "Blank Slate" represents the artist's reflections upon current times and the era of fear, depression, and loneliness experienced in the "new normal." Esposito explores the isolation of those living with mental illness and those suffering from substance abuse whose challenges have been exacerbated and laid bare.
All the figures depicted in Blank Slate are hooded; their faces are either totally or partially hidden from view. Many pieces contrast bronze patinas with painted backgrounds illuminating the hooded figures' hidden, inner world, alluding to the wearer's identity. Through the combination of two and three-dimensional media, the artworks push the hooded subject into our visceral space creating conflict between the figure's desire to be hidden and the viewer's own incompatible impulses to ignore, expose and understand.

The Blank Slate Exhibition will open with a reception on on March 6th and continue through March 29, 2021. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday 11-6 p.m. or by appointment.

BOYNTON BEACH —
Artist and appraiser Richard Beau Lieu remembers what it was like in 1986 when he first opened a studio on Industrial Avenue in Boynton Beach.
It was quiet. He was the only artist around. He was a sculptor.
He tried his best to let the public know he was there.
“It wasn’t back then an area known for art,” Beau Lieu said. “Now it is.”
What is now known as the Boynton Beach Art District was once called the Neighborhood Arts Gallery. With the help of artist Rolando Chang Barrero, Industrial Avenue has become a vibrant art scene which in October will celebrate its fourth anniversary.
Around the same time, the district will do its yearly change of the murals that line the outside walls. The artists are taking proposals and have already decided the theme for the murals will be WPA Propaganda posters* (unveiling October 5th, 2014).
The art district has 11 artists who rent studios on Industrial Avenue. The public is invited to walk around the area to view the outside murals or stop in and meet the artists. The district also offers a popular Art Walk. The walk — which also includes food trucks, music and performances — was briefly canceled over the summer because of a permitting issue but came back Aug. 28. The next walk is today.
“It’s good. It’s a good place to be. Art in Public Places is extremely well developed here,” Chang Barrero said. “When I first got here I couldn’t draw two people in here … and they were like ‘Where’s Boynton Beach?’”
Chang Barrero came to the district four years ago and re-branded the area.
Beau Lieu remembers when Chang Barrero asked if he’d be stepping on his feet in trying to market the district.
“I said ‘Hey, listen, I expended all my energy years ago. If you want to go for it, just go for it,’” Beau Lieu said. “He’s brought a lot of attention to the area.”
So Chang Barrero contacted his friends from throughout the county and told them about the district.
Chang Barrero said it was clear how important the place has become to the public when the city canceled the walk.

The art walk had been going on without a permit for a while and when Chang Barrero expressed plans to expand it, the city said something else had to be done. The solution is for Chang Barrero to obtain a $250 yearly permit.
“The whole township rallied behind me and the city, I guess, realized how important it was to really find a quick resolution to it,” Chang Barrero said.
Even before that, it seems the city has always in, a way, been behind the concept of an arts district.
Beau Lieu said back when he first came to the area, he fought to keep a sign up at the entrance of Industrial Avenue announcing an art gallery. Businesses would take it down and he went to city officials for help. The officials ended up siding with Beau Lieu and helped with the signage.
Chang Barrero said Boynton was a perfect fit to develop as an art district.
“Boynton Beach was prime. It was a prime area for the development of the arts,”
he said.

In collaboration with Lee Ann Lester, organizer of Art Palm Beach, a group of Palm Beach County artists, led by Rolando Chang Barrero and Craig McInnis, have organized themselves under the banner of Art Synergy to organize art community leaders throughout Palm Beach County to produce four inaugural satellite exhibitions during Art Palm Beach.

ART SYNERGY is a countywide movement to unify and promote the diverse culture of our vibrant arts community.

The four satellite exhibitions; ARTal’FRESCOArtPOPContinuum, and ArtX will highlight the vibrant art scene which community arts advocates, established in their respective niches in Palm Beach County.

Art Synergy co-founder, Rolando Chang Barrero who took the run down industrial park in Boynton Beach and created the Boynton Beach Arts District, ultimately winning the title of “Best Art Walk in 2013”, will host ARTal’Fresco.ARTal’FRESCO, the first of a series of four exhibitions will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 beginning at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, January 25, 2014, Continuum on Clematis is being organized Art Synergy co-founder and visual artist, Craig McInnis with local artists team of ATB Collaborations: Anthony and Trina Burks, who recently presented theAfrican Diaspora Exhibition at the Armory Art Center.

Also, on Saturday: ArtX at Northwood Village, is spearheaded by Freddy Hennevelt and wife Nickie who have been the force behind the newly organized Historic Northwood Village Art Walk.

Sunday, January 26, 2014, Art POP in Lake Worth, is being created by Emily Theodossakos -Marketing and Program Manager Lake Worth CRA – LULA,
Walking tour of the Art Lofts project and the Arches will conclude the series of events.

Background:

In early 2013 with the help (and at the urging of) nationally known artist / activist Frank Batista; Craig McInnis and Rolando Barrero (local artists and activists themselves) created a THINK TANK.

Dedicated to finding solutions instead of dwelling on problems, the THINK TANK was a forum for local artists of all kinds to come together and discuss ideas to help the local scene grow.

The first initiative Rolando and Craig wanted to tackle was a program of events to coincide with Art Palm Beach; in hopes that the local scene could benefit from the popular art event much like Miami has benefitted from Art Basel.

Soon it was named ART SYNERGY and took shape. As of October 2013 it includes 4 art districts, These 4 locations will feature works by artists from all over Palm Beach County during the week of Art Palm Beach (January 23-27 2014).

ART SYNERGY's future goals include events that will happen periodically throughout the year, the addition of more participating art districts, and initiatives that help unify the many diverse art entities, and talented artists that Palm Beach County has to offer.

With the help of local CRAs / Public Arts Depts. / the DDA in WPB and the Cultural Council of Palm Beach county (to name a few), ART SYNERGY has only one place to go... onward and upward. ART SYNERGY leaders: Rolando Barrerro -Boynton Beach Art District / Trina and Anthony Burks -ATB Fine Arts / Craig McInnis - local artist / Outreach Director Jerry's Artarama / Nickie and Freddy Hennevelt- Hennevelts Gallery Northwood / Emily Theodossakos -Marketing and Program Manager Lake Worth CRA - LULA.
