New Times on Bookbinding Workshop @ ActivistArtistA

Thank you! Andrea Richard!

New Times!

Although e-readers are convenient and you can download entire libraries to your tablet or smartphone, true bibliophiles can expound at length on the textile wonders of holding a real book in one's hands. As basic written communication finds new technologies, the books themselves become works of art. Materials such as leaves, embroidered fabric, envelopes, and argyle socks can be sewn together to tell a story filled with keepsakes. In Thursday night's bookbinding workshop at ActivistAristaA Gallery in Boynton Beach, participants will learn the tradition of Chinese stab binding, a simple stitching technique to bind a book. The workshop is designed for beginners and runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10 per person, and the workshop includes instruction and materials consisting of medium-quality rice paper and ribbon. Attendees will walk away with a finished piece and are encouraged to bring their own materials to add a touch of personal flair to their books — dirty socks and tawdry love letters included. ActivistArtistA Gallery is located at 422 W. Industrial Ave. in Boynton Beach. Call 786-521-1199, or visit activistartista.blogspot.com
